So, I plan on doing my first acoustic guitar build this year, in the next couple months. Since i dont want to waste good wood, I'm going to be doing a plywood and poplar acoustic build to get everything down before then. It'll also help get all the kinks worked out on the different jigs i'll be making.
Top, sides and back will be Plywood, unless i can find some other scraps i can glue up for this. Bracing and neck will be poplar. Just using what i already have.
Jigs to make:
Side bending Jig [x]
Binding Jig []
Router Table []
Radius dish maker (to make them) X2 []
(need two separate radii; one for front and one for back)
2 radii dish []
As you can see, i have a lot of work to do. Before anyone ask/comments, this is not supposed to be pretty or sound good. This is to learn how to build a acoustic, and that is it's only function. I dont even really planning on playing the thing. I want to learn from my mistakes, and make sure all my jigs work properly before i get to the real deal.
Also, i have gotten the side bending jig to a decent state. I tried to bend some ply today, to see how well it works. I knew it was too thick to begin with(over double the normal thickness), but i didn't care at the time. It eventually cracked on the last curve. No worries though, gonna plane down 2 sides, and try to bend them again later this week. Also want to cut out the top, back, glue up the neck, etc this week.
No pics for now, not much good looking stuff to look at in this build.
just want to document this for other people to learn from as well.
Cheers. Any questions ask away.
