hey y'all i'd like to get a 6505 half stack. but i think i'd like to build the cab myself. what speakers would you recommend? also type of wood?
edit: ima use 2 12" texas heat on top and 2 12" swamp thangs on the bottom. birch framing and all.

i read somewhere, i forget where, that the 12"s will start to give a little bit more in comparison to the 15"s for the bass when its turned up. though with a 6505 i doubt ill turn it up too often. you reckon i could build this for under 600? under 700 will work too.

you should be able to build it yourself for around $250-$300ish

the 6505 can run at 4, 8 , or 16. i'd go with 8 though since pretty much every speakers comes in that option.

i really like the lady luck in my VJ cab, but its custom for epiphone only personally, i would go 2 eminece and 2 celestion; the custom cab im thinking of building when i get a marshall will have 2 greenbacks and 2 eminence patriot texas heats. so ill say go with the texas heat..

i'm gonna use 8 ohms though... sorry dude. unless theres a way to combine two different ohm ratings.

it over complicates things when you get into mixing different ratings. i'd just stick to one.

thats what i figured. but should i get 2 of those in the 8 ohms? as well as the texas heat.

i'd personally mix the texas heat with something like a governor. the texas heat has a nice low end to it so the governors mids should balance it out nicely.

well, if you put two 16 ohm in parallel, doesnt that make it 8 ohm??

yeah he's making a 4x12 though. so to run it at 8 he'd have to wire the 16's in parallel and the 8's in series, more effort than needed really. do able though.

not yet. but i got no sound on my laptop. so i'll go on my house comp in a few minutes to check it out.
edit: i think it'd sound pretty sweet with 2 swamp thangs on the bottom and 2 texas heat up top. sound good yall?
edit2: how do i wire this to keep it 8 ohms?

All 8 Ohm speakers? wire each pair (either combo, both same, or one of each) in parallel, then wire those in series. 1/8 + 1/8 = 1/16 now you've essentially got 2 16 ohm speakers. 1/R1 + 1/R2 = 1/ X ; X is the desired ohms. so we now get that each speaker pair is 16ohms, so: 1/16 + 1/16 = 1/8 ; you now have your proper wiring wow, considering I'm drunk, that was a pretty easy thing to think out for me...

thanks, how do i support the speakers? or do they suspend themselves in the air? you'd build a baffle board for them.
